Here is the Story:
Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, performed great exploits. He struck down Moab’s two mightiest warriors. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion.
- 2 Samuel 23:20
For Benaiah, he decided he was going to take the opportunity that he was presented with. He probably went into the pit with only his hands or at most a club of some sort. What made the task more difficult was that it was snowing and lions are huge, nonetheless Benaiah tore that mighty lion to shreds. If you take a look at v. 23 you can find that the risk was well worth it. Because he took that opportunity, Benaiah was put in charge of guarding David! King David!
Like Benaiah, when we look at the opportunities that seemingly fall into our laps we must take those opportunities because it's highly likely we will never get that "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity ever again. When we get old we'll likely reflect on life and see that the opportunity we turned down was our biggest regret. No matter what happens when taking opportunities, we have to take that chance.
